Messiah Lyrics

Archer is going to sing this one in a few weeks. It is a classic from the Messiah, and not that exciting except that he has a really easy time hitting the high notes. But looking up the lyics for the first time I realized that the libretto is based in two parts, the first on the first on a scripture the old Test. and the second part from a similar one from the New. And they are both great for Christmas because they are about shepherds and lambs and stuff.

So "Brother Handel" is obviously a musical intuitive, which I have known for a long time. But I also have noticced just for the first time the last few times recently this year scripturally/doctrinally intuitive he is also. It must be why the church allows the Messiah as one of their remaining works that is non hymn in origin to be sung in sacrament meeting.

Did anyone know that nothing in Latin is allowed anymore in sacrament meeting? Aparently they are worried that it is going to be too Catholicky.

Really, how long has that been the case, does anyone know? It must not have been that long, and it doesn't surprise me that much, but it is one of those things that makes you sigh and shake your head like you wonder how long it is going to be before the church outlaws anything that is actually nice/pretty/interesting/fun/good tasting or whatever and we are left with.... um.... I am still thinking about what we will be left with.

But seriously, if we didn't use LATIN, we wouldn't have the word "sacrament" at all!!!

We would have MEETING, as that is English in origin... what a surprise!

"He shall feed His flock like a shepherd; and He shall gather the lambs
with His arm, and carry them in His bosom, and gently lead those that are
with young."

(Isaiah 40:11)

"Come unto Him, all ye that labour, come unto Him that are heavy laden, and
He will give you rest. Take His yoke upon you, and learn of Him, for He
is meek and lowly of heart, and ye shall find rest unto your souls."

(Matthew 11:28-29)

Yeah! You made your blog public! Now I can start stalking your blog again:).

Cool observation about the Messiah lyrics, definitely gives it new meaning.

I'm happy you are blogging again! I love seeing the video of the kids!

It's amazing that we sing these songs all our life and never really focus on the meaning. Thanks for the insight and holiday message in both songs. I need a little Christmas, too.

Big hugs to you and the Fam!

I have said this on various places, that I had various reasons at the time to "privatize" the blog because I did have some unwanted attention, etc. but it is a pain to try to do the invite thing, I I will just try to deal. I welcome all of you that are here with at least semi-ok motives, and even a few more! I try not to be that exclusive. And I have a lot more peeps than I realize, etc. cause many never comment. But I get a LOT LOT of traffic from Helium that's due to my very public web content, so some of it's very strange. I need to just clean it up occasionally if I get bad comments from actual real stalkers. And sadly, I do have one or two.

Welcome again Sandy and Malia and as always Donna. I don't know if you all scrolled down but I added some stuff about all of the music from my kids if anyone's interested.
