Hey all. We are all still pretty traumatized bc of the car wreck. My arm was really hurt bad. I told our choir director that I didn't want to play the flute/pic but he talked me into it b/c he said he likes having me to cover up the choir (it isn't the very best quality singing ensemble ever. Put it that way). I would not be happy with this if I were a singer, which actually I am normally. Oh well. So he talked me into it and I did it and I was just a little bit too out of it still. Hadn't really had enough time to have the part I wrote sink in because I was obviously winging it. Sad.
Anyway they read that first presidency message on gay marriage. I really think that the church is thus far taking the wrong approach. I think that anything done through the government, partnerships for tax or whatever else purposes, next of kin or whaever , should be the same for hetero/homo couples. It could be called a civil union and then we all would have it just the same no matter who we were. Then actual marriage could kind of be abolished except for those of us who wanted it as an ecclesiastical function.
That sounds kind of radical, but that is actually the way it used to be. That is why Hen VIII had to get Rome's approval to marry/divorce because it was done through the church. I am not exactly sure whether that was the beginning of governments being a part of marriage in the English speaking world or not. But why in the WORLD are they at all? Especially as a conservative, who doesn't think that governments should be involved in ANYTHING that they don't absolutely HAVE to be,

Car crash
Hey all. I got in a bad car wreck this Saturday. Thought I would post now because you will probably hear about it eventually. I wrote a lot about how frustrated I am that this keeps happening. I am probably going to go back to not driving.
To be clear, I am somewhat ok. The kids are ok. Our finances will take a hit. The car was fairly new and now it is dead. Just like the last one. Poor Slade. He works so hard. Luckily he is a huge man at Intel and everything. He can somewhat afford our ridiculous expenses. He met with the vice president of the company the other day!
I wrote a long whining post about it in vonmorganstone.

Drake's little man syndrome
Drake is all of a sudden Mr. Responsible now that Slade is gone. "Sadie needs to get up early, we should set two alarms," "You need to get to bed, Mom." "We should work on some chores today."
Totally funny, if they were like this ever when Slade was here life would be pretty easy indeed.

Slade out of the country
I am not really able to handle Slade travelling, so we have really insisted that he not do much of it. He could probably be making more money if he was willing to but there are certain things that aren't worth getting paid more for us. Both of us hate HIM to travel, I hate him to be gone and he hates to go. So whatever the career consequences, he tells them not to send him anywhere.
But this week he had to go to Malaysia even though he had them defer the trip for about a year now. It is so freaky. He went to Israel a few years ago and I watched CNN Headline news obsessively for the breaking news of a terrorist bombing. So that's what I will be doing this week. If anyone wants to join me, doing that or at least prayer, they are certainly welcome. It doesn't really help me feel better about it that he was looking up life insurance policies the night before he left.

All of our bats still have their heads...
And big Morgan kid heads at that... I shouldn't say Morgan heads because that is definitely a Hicks trait. But my kids seem to have it to the nth degree.
Here is the famed footage of Archer's glory moment in his band... thus far. He was busily writing what he called some 'lyrics' today. So we shall see what comes of that.
I heard him also explaining on the phone 'yeah, but we really should work up some of the songs we already play,' making me think that the lead of his band is really cracking the whip. It's the kid who plays the electric guitar, obviously pretty good at it and serious about it, something none of my children are about anything. At least he has his dad's proper life-sized dose of realism.
Chase wants an electric base, but this will have to get QUITE a bit more serious before that happens. Although it beats all of their other ideas for what they want for presents.

This is a heavily cropped version, unfortunately, and I can't even figure out how to link to the actual video, because I couldn't get the full one to load to my blog. Pitty. But as I only have two videos on my youtube account (so far, hehehe) it should be easy to figure out, I hope.
Iron Man, by Black Sabbath
Has he lost his mind?
Can he see or is he blind?
Can he walk at all,
Or if he moves will he fall?
Is he alive or dead?
Has he thoughts within his head?
Well just pass him there
Why should we even care?
He was turned to steel
In the great magnetic field
Where he traveled time
For the future of mankind
Nobody wants him
He just stares at the world
Planning his vengeance
That he will soon unfold
Now the time is here
For iron man to spread fear
Vengeance from the grave
Kills the people he once saved
Nobody wants him
They just turn their heads
Nobody helps him
Now he has his revenge
Heavy boots of lead
Fills his victims full of dread
Running as fast as they can
Iron man lives again!

Roping myself into more crazy ideas
I offered to play piccolo for the Battle Hymn of the Republic in my ward. Today I am cursing myself. Oh well.
Publishing my Relief Society lessons on Helium
I had a really great idea, I am going to publish a somewhat sanitized version of my relief society lessons on Helium. I am going to start doing it far in advance of my teaching, which in addition to being good for me and my procrastination, hopefully I can start making contact with other RS teachers that are working up the material.
I did the first one already but I didn't really even do a very good job of it because I wasn't sure that they would put it up there. But I am starting to get some clout on the site, and I know that the antis run their garbage in the form of articles.
I will post some links when I get a couple that I like, it was just a cool idea and I am happy that they are working with me on it.
